The Vikings Burn Lambay Monastery
Lambay was called Reachtra and was devasted in 795 AD by the vikings. There was a monastery on Lambay and there were about 50 or 100 monks living in the monastery. The vikings came and attacked repeatedly. They burned the churches to the ground and took the chalices and the valuable books. They ripped the books but kept the covers. They killed inhabitants and captured monks and kept them as slaves. They led the slaves off to their longships. The books had gems and gold covers.
