Works of Art Destroyed.
Lambay was called Reachtra and many monks lived there in a beautiful monastery. The monks worked and prayed all day. They worked on many beautiful books, with gold covers and diamonds and gems. They also made many decorated stone crosses. It took them years to complete some of these works of art. They all lived peacefully in the monasteries, until one day the Vikings heard about the gold and gems owned by the monks of Lambay. Soon after that they attacked the monks. They ripped up the books but they kept the covers and they took all the gold chalices that the monks had made also. The Vikings travelled in long ships. After they had taken all the gold they left. And the monks were left with nothing and the monastery on Lambay island was destroyed.
