George Ross drove the first ball to open the course on St.Stephen's day 1894. The driver he used is preserved in the golf club. Portmarnock has been the home of the Irish Open on many occasions. Of course the magnificent links have become internationally known as the venue for several other major tournaments.
The President, Parish Priest and the Archbishop of Dublin are always honorary members of the Club.

Formerly known as The Country Club. It was the house of whiskey maker and a teacher John Jameson. There is a story going around that one of the family commited suicide and threw himself out a window of a bedroom upstairs. He comes back and haunts this room every year and this is what happened one year when my auntie was working there. It was coming up to his birthday and strange things started to happen, fire hoses were unravelled around the corridors. Things were disturbed in rooms that were vacant e.g. drawers turned upside down all across the room, toilet rolls unrolled and beds moved. One night two girls came and stayed in the room. At about 12 midnight they heard strange noises. Blood appeared on the front and back of the girl s blouses. They got very scared and ran out of the room. They were put up in another room for the night. The next morning when my auntie went to work she heard what happened and went up to the room. The room was a disaster. The beds were upside down and the drawers were flung across the room. The place was just an utter mess. The girls went home and every thing was quiet. My auntie later found out that the girls dabbled in black-magic. So she never knew whether it was the ghost of Jameson or the girls just messing. Who knows?

It was built in 1847.It was reconstructed in 1895. The house was built by John Jameson. Johns son Willy took an interest in the estate. Their tenants were given cottages.
Malahide Golf Club (47K JPEG)
Malahide golf club was founded in 1892 and was owned by Mc Enory family. The owner Mc Enory just died recently. In 1988 the members of the Malahide Golf Club decided to move from their existing nine hole course to a much larger and more suitable location. There is now a 27 hole course and the new clubhouse is open. The new Malahide golf club was opened in 1989. They used to have peacocks which roamed around the golf course. They had to get rid of them because they did their droppings all over the place. The last peacock was given away last week to Newgrange farm. It just so happens that our principal Mr Lowe is a full commitee member. Nathaniel Turnbull lived in Malahide golf club formerly known as Beechwood House. When he died he was buried in the Prodistant church graveyard in Portmarnock. Turnbull left all of his personal things in the attic and that is how we know so much about him. The Malahide golf club is practicaly in Portmarnock and it is so near that it takes about ten minutes to walk there from our school. You have to be a member or a members guest to get in or play golf.
