The Senior school was started in 1981 but it was not until June 1985 that the
present school building was occupied. At the start there were only three
third classes and one fourth class (aged 9 - 11). There was 64 girls and 64 boys.
The original St.Helen's Jnr. School started in 1977. It had 50 pupils at that time and
was called St.Helen's National School. It had 2 teachers, Mr.Lowe and
Mr. Griffin. They had 2 prefabs beside St. Marnock's School in Portmarnock village. They then
moved up the hill to the prefabs beside The Holy Family Church close to our present school site. In 1980 they moved into what is now called St Helen's Junior school. The number of pupils was growing rapidly and in 1981 it was divided into 2 schools under the one roof. A further 4 years passed before we occupied our new Senior school (28K JPEG) building shown above. Our numbers peaked at 640 and we currently have 370 children on roll and 16 teachers.
